Core Value: Care for our People

Health and Safety

Care guides how we work every day. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our workers. We build strong systems and daily practices to improve safety and reduce risk.

Core Value: Excellence

Operational Excellence

We use energy and raw materials responsibly.  To meet the needs of customers, our approach includes renewable energy, low-carbon products, recycling of by-products and responsible waste management.

Core Value: Care for our Communities

adding value for others

With operational excellence, we create value for everyone.

In Jamaica, we make mined lands arable for community gardens that feed nearby families. Crops include okra, cassava, cabbage, bell pepper and more. In the U.S., we share our lands with wildlife enthusiasts and entrepreneurs, making lifestyles and livelihoods possible on our property. These are examples of ways we add value.

Wildlife and Recreation

Andrew Norvell grew up hunting on Century Aluminum land with his dad, Richard, who got a job at the plant when it opened in 1973. Decades later, he carries on that tradition—working at the smelter during the week and hunting the same land on weekends.

Entrepreneur Cultivates Honey

Curtis Simpson runs Ranger Bees, a family business out of Calhoun, Kentucky, where he’s been making raw honey for nearly 15 years. He keeps beehives on Century Aluminum land, cultivating local honey that’s now sold in stores like Kroger and Publix.

Sharing Our Land

JD Burns, a fourth-generation farmer in Kentucky, grows soybeans on up to 500 acres of Century Aluminum property, adjacent to the Sebree plant. It’s a labor of love – for his father who taught him the trade and for the land which sustains his livelihood.

OUR CARE VALUES IN ACTION

CARE
AGILITY
RESPONSIBILITY
EXCELLENCE

We create strong partnerships with the communities surrounding our plants. We launched CenturyCares in Mt. Holly, S.C. to give back to programs that support education, families and the environment.  In Sebree, Kentucky, neighbors farm on our property adjacent to the smelter, growing hundreds of acres of soybean and corn. Here are ways our efforts have been recognized.
