Our History
Where We Started
Century Aluminum was founded in 1995. At that time, our assets included Ravenswood Aluminum Corporation, which produced rolled aluminum products in Ravenswood, West Virginia and a 26.67% share in a smelter in Mt. Holly, South Carolina.
We launched an initial public offering in March 1996, and we continue to be proudly traded on NASDAQ today.
Where We Are Today
We have grown significantly through strategic acquisitions and are now a global producer of primary aluminum, with primary aluminum production plants in the United States and Iceland.
We operate two U.S. smelters— in Sebree, Kentucky and in Mt. Holly, South Carolina—as well as one in Grundartangi, Iceland. A joint project with EGA, our newest smelter will be built in Inola, Oklahoma.
Products and Plants
Our primary aluminum facilities produce both standard-grade and value-added aluminum products. Currently, our annual primary aluminum production capacity is approximately 770,000 tonnes.
In addition to our aluminum smelters, we own a bauxite mining and alumina refinery in Clarendon, Jamaica, and a carbon anode production facility in Vlissingen, The Netherlands. Vlissingen supplies anodes to our smelter in Grundartangi, Iceland.
